I don't know how many people have seen 7 pounds...if you haven't you may want to STOP READING NOW!

So all I have for everyone who reads this is a simple question.

So, this is the thing...was Will Smith's act at the end of the movie primarily an act of love and sacrifice? OR...does his act give an excuse/justify/glorify suicide?

There's two ways to see it. To someone who is struggling with depression and wants a way out does the movie encourage suicide?

Or is it a loving act of sacrifice that can be likened to Jesus' act of love...please respond and leave comments...

RESPOND AND LEAVE COMMENTS!

Thanks.

Hi manny! long time no speak...ur blog caught my attention becuz still to this day i dunno wat to make of this movie! well i think that people are so quick to to use the word glorify. just becuase a movie has something in it, doesnt mean they are glorifying it. It's telling a story. and how YOU feel about that story makes the difference. But to answer ur question, i think its more on the side of his sacrifice that was the point.

I loved this movie. I think the question of whether or not it justifies suicide is kind of a hard call cause I feel like suicide is a very gray area. Is it possible to be a Christian, take your own life and still go to Heaven? I don't think anyone has the answer to that question except for God. His thoughts are so much higher than ours. He sees the persons heart and ultimately he decides where they are at. With that being said, I think this suicide was completely different than a normal suicide, in that it was completely selfless. Suicide generally is the most selfish thing a person can do but in this case, he was not doing it for himself at all. "Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends." So in my opinion, this suicide was an act of love, not selfishness. Therefore, not being wrong. I have a lot of other things to say about this movie but this comment is getting way too long so I'm gonna leave it at that.

I believe the suicide in this movie was a selfish act. He tried to justify the suicide in his own mind by donating his organs. The timing of the suicide was an act of love.

Will Smith was running totally on guilt. He sacrifised his organs, His life, because he believed he had a debt that only his death could pay.WRONG! wat makes you u think your life or the lives you saved of others would even kinda amount or pay for, in any way the loss of those YOU KILLED. Nothing earthly or any humanly good could pay for our sins or wrong doings. As Christians we know that this is the Thing....God sent his only begotten son.....he, GOD ALMIGHTY, payed for the dept that we, Human Kind, owed. What a beautiful thing,Our bills payed!...killing that family, and your wife wasnt were you went wrong, but devoting your Whole life, trying to fix a problem, trying to pay a dept that you had insuffisent funds to pay for,was ur ultimated mistake Will Smith.
BUT AS ChRiSTiAns WE alSO kNOW THAT God Makes all things WORk out fOr the GOOD!!!!!
